Have a problem with this mobo. The mobo has been in a box for some time and not used. Decided to test.

Using a Duron 1100
512 Unbuffered PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM
Using a AGP 4x Card

All the above are known to be good and were tested
succesfully in a MS 6712 v1.0 KT4AV Mobo (note slightly different model)

When first powered up, the system issued three long beeps.
It is an AMI BIOS as I understand it.
I switched off and checked connections - all ok.

Powered up again, board issued a beep then started making a ticking
sound around the area where front panel power button jumpers
are situated. I suspected a crystal there was malfunctioning as there was
only 1 capacitor and the crystal at this area of the board.

Powered off - checked the xtal, sure enough it was loose. The strap
used to tie it down did not hold in situ correctly. Soldered the crystal firmly into position and powered up with a POST diag card in slot 5.

The system powers up - no beeps but the POST card flashes the number
8 i.e. all seven segments of the first LED of four the POST card has.

The voltages appear ok on the POST card and the post card illustrates
that is has an oscillator frame.

Any advice please?

Try a different power supply.

Hi,

An update so to speak. Changed the PSU.
This time, the system powers up but I get a POST Code 0000
Any suggestions?
I have alive (so the POST card tells me)
Sys, Clk, Osc Frame and Rst will blink once
Power as follows;
+12V, -12V, -5V 3.3V and +5V

Could be a BIOS Issue - BIOS dead?
I have tried resetting the BIOS - no joy
I will try an AMIBIOS recovery procedure

Will let you know progress

Hi,

AMI BIOS recovery has failed.
Guess the BIOS Boot block has gone!

Some advice on how to hot swap would be good as
I have an MS 6712 v1.0A KT4AV Mobo (slight different)

Thx In Advance

Arrgh!

MSI state I cannot use the MS 6712 v1.0A KT4AV BIOS as
this is the KT400A chipset as opposed to the KT400 chipset.

Any suggestions?
