Situation: Abit mboard (SE6) ,Intel P3 1ghz proc.. When I shut the computer down and leave it off for several hours upon starting it does a CD check,HD spins up and board receives power but thats it,no beeps no video signal. After a lot of detective work I pulled out the battery and reset the CMOS via jumper ,to my surprise the computer booted but gave the "chksum error" expected this due to pulling out battery. However I have now replaced the battery and I just had to do the same thing. Is this BIOS corruption? And if so how is it happening, to the best of my knowledge this BIOS(award) on my board cannot be flashed (according to Abit)so I never tried, how can the bios corrupt when I never flashed ? Board on way out??

If you get CMOS checksum error, replace the battery.
If you get BIOS checksum error and Award BootBlock BIOS, you need to boot from floppy and reflash the BIOS.

CMOS Checksum or BIOS checksum.... they are different.

What ver of the bios doe you have? Look at the lower left corner of the screen at boot. The latest I see is id 56.

Have you set the bios defaults after replacing the battery?

You can get a new chip flashed by Bad Flash.
You can try to relfash the one you have with the latest bios form www.abit-usa.com and use the Award skip checksum parm.

Actually I get this error after I remove the battery (which is brand new) and reset the CMOS via jumper. The real problem is that the board will not boot at all UNTIL I do this. Its fine after this. I have SE6 ver 2.1 the BIOS is not flashable.

Your fighting me.....

1) Is it a cmos chksum error or a bios chksum error?
2) Did you get into bios and set the defaults when your restarted?
3) What ver shows at boot? IE - bios string - post it
4) There is a flash bios (original) for this board... look here http://www.abitboards.com/download.htm and it points to here
