Hi,

Some days ago my power supply died. Smoke came from inside and it was the end!.
I bought a new case and installed inside my BP6. After that all i get is continious beeps and no vga signal or any other activity. The only thing that works are the fans and the speaker that goes on beeping. When i push the power switch for more than 4 seconds the computer shuts down. When i push the power button again all i get is working fans and continious beeps. I tried every combination of vga cards, memory chips, hdd, and i get nothing but beeps.
Is there a possibility that it is a bad bios chip because of possible power problems before my previous power supply dies?.

Something is dead there - test the CPU, memory and VGA in another board. Test the board with known good CPU, memory and ISA VGA card.
If you get nothing, the board is probably dead. You may then try to hot-flash the BIOS in another board, but it will most probably not help.

Well,

Sorry for the delay but i was trying to find what is broken.
I tested the cpus on a soyo SY-6BA+ (or stg like that) and they both work. I tested the memory 2x128mb and they both work. I also tested my voodoo3 on a qdi kudoz7 and it also works.
I installed the bios chip on the soyo mb, which also has a award bios with the same sticker on (award, 686, pnp bios, etc etc). The soyo also uses the same chipset as the bp6, intel's 440bx, but i got no boot on the soyo. But that might also be because the bp6 bios might not works on the soyo anyway (even if it is not destroyed).
I will try to get the bios chip to an electrician to flash it with a eprom programmer, and i will try the new power supply with another mb, because the fact that it is new does not mean that it hasn't any flaws.
However i think that the bp6 is broken somewhere in the power supply circuit. When i boot it and hear the beeps most of the times one of the cpu fans is not working. That makes me think that the board has a problem on it that has nothing to do with the peripherals or the bios.
However i will keep trying and if i don't get nothing, then bye bye my good'ol bp6.
If you have any ideas about what i should try please tell me...

Thanx, and sorry for the big post

Hi

Sorry for the delayed reply but i was recovering from the faith that came on to me like a wall!!!

It wasn't a bad bios issue but the power supply before its death desided to
1. burn my bp6
2. burn my a) hdd quantum 13gb b)cdrw sony 100e c) dvd hitachi 7500gd d) sound blaster player 1024 e) tv tuner card hauppauge tv primio.

Thank god my floppy is still alive!!!

any donations for the purchase of a new system are welcomed.
