I've been having problems with "sleep mode-like" state of my comp (intel core 2, 2 G RAM, 2 sata HDs, etc..) after getting this message:

cmos checksum error - default loaded

and F1 continuing to start up..until after usually a couple of minutes or even less.. the monitor turns itself off whikle the comp seems to keep on running (CPU an PSU-fans, etc..)

Doing a bit of googling made me aware of that it is a not uncomon problem. HOwever, I've seen so many options as to the cause of this problem and several solutions which in some cases worked fors some, and in most cases did not work for others (like replacing the CMOS battery..)

So, basically, my question is: is there any definite cause for this problem and also a definite solution for it?

(every now and then I came across someone even mentioning a virus causing this problem.. but no too often.. they referred to a file cmos.asm, which should be located and removed.. However, The comp now "shuts down" so quickly that I canot even enter the BIOS..)
