Hi,

i have a motherboard taken out of a Compaq Evo D30,

when i turn it on, the fans start blowing, harddisc is running etc.
but no video out or any bleeps.

could it be that the "hood sense"feature sees that there is no hood (actually i don't even have a case for it yet) and therefor the system is halting ?

or should i look somewhere else ?

As far as I can tell from the troubleshooting guide the hood sensor error occurs late in the POST sequence and should not prevent POST starting.

The first thing that came to my mind was to check if hard disk data cables were reveresed at one end. I find this to prevent computers from posting - except - if I remember correctly - it also prevents other components such as fans from starting. However, despite my contradictory analysis, it is always worth checking or at least disconnecting drives to be sure.

Actually just remember that hard disks do not usually power up with reversed riboon cable - but sometimes I enjoy in these situations unplugging everything from the board except power, RAM, video and CPU and seeing if the system runs.
