I have a Medion (ALDI) MD 8800 Desktop PC. Yesterday I (tried to) flash the BIOS and since then the pc doesn't startup anymore. All I get is a black screen. The MB is a MS 7204 OEM type. The BIOS is PLCC-32 design. I can read on top of it : Winbond, A7204, M710B under the sticker which sits on top of the BIOS chip. One or two characters in front I cannot read.
Is there anything I can do to revive my PC? I know someone who can solder a new chip if needed.

Most boards have a recovery mechanism. But the bootblock needs to be there for that to work.

How did you flash the board and what file did you use?

I used the file bio7204.exe from the www.medion.nl site. You need the serial number of the pc, which I got. Then I extracted the file and followed the instructions. During flashing everything seemed normal and I did not see any error messages or so. Maybe I restarted too early, I don't know. What is a bootblock by the way?

The first section of the bios with absolute minimum info needed to get the rest of the bios from the floppy drive.

Now I'm pretty sure this is an Award bios and there's some info about recovering an Award bios in the forums. Question is where... I'll look for it as well...

For Award BIOS

1. Make a bootable floppy disk
2. Copy the Award flash utility & BIOS file to the said floppy disk
3. Create an autoexec.bat with "Award_Flash_Utility BiosFilename" in the content (e.g. awdfl823K w6378vms.130)
Sample on how to create an autoexec:
a. On Windows, open notepad
b. In notepad, write "awdfl823K w6378vms.130" (without the " ")
c. Save the file as autoexec.bat
4. Boot up system with the said floppy (it will take less than 2 minutes before screen comes out)
5. Re-flash the BIOS & reboot.

Oh and check what version of the board you have, version 1.x or 2.x as they use DIFFERENT bioses!

V1.x:
http://download2.medion.de/downloads/tr ... io7204.exe

V2.x:
http://download.medion.de/downloads/tre ... 7204v2.exe

V2.x with RAID:
http://download2.medion.de/downloads/tr ... 204v2r.exe
