Sirs,

pls sirs need advice, my laptop emachine m5305 laptop froze while it was flashing kbc update, i waited for 30min but did not stop responded, so i pressed the power but wouldnt turn off, i decided to remove the battery, it turned off but was dead afterwards. no power, leds dont light, battery and ac dont work. There were two bios file update, 1 was for the main bios, the other was called kbc3700.

Bios chip was socketed, so i had it reprogrammed to the original bios on a computer shop but it still doesnt power up.

could it be that my board went dead?

thanks,

kbc is another bios chip. Not sure where it's located and if it is socketed.

The keyboard controller (KBC) chip might be similar to an 8751. Do you have pictures?

Big pictures!
The last picture shows what we are looking for - there is a Hitachi H8/3437 microcontroller, 64F3437TF16. Datasheet available here. This includes 60 KB flash memory.

Since it is not in a socket, it would not be easy to re-program. The "on-board programming" facility mentioned in the data sheet needs a user program to be running in the controller.

I don't know whether this machine supports the Phoenix "crisis recovery" system and whether "crisis recovery" includes kbc firmware. There is a post about KBC flash issues with Sony VAIO which may cast some light on this, see here. It may be worthwhile sending a PM or email to Joe (sorry, Joe!).
