Hello Pete and the other guy's.
I see nothing special on the board , no burning resistors , no bad caps ,nothing at all .I test everything with a PCI card , the voltages are correct If I can trust the PCI Card ! I work with a Athlon Processor Thunderbird 1Ghz. The cards begin on 00 and stops on directly on C0 with a good working processor . No beeps or screen , all the rest works fine , the harddrive , Cd-rom and the fans , exept the floppy no burning light .
Now I try this with a bad processor , then the PCI card stops on C1 !!!
Why !
Now I see the code list of Award it's not in the following order that the bios starts or well !! C0and C1 they stand on the last of the list !
But in the meantime I search for a solution .

Hello ,

I whas forgot a picture of this test . You can see the lights of the voltages
and the bios(check) oscilator(check) the RED led is the Reset switch they light up when you reset .

Hello Pete,

This is answer to another topic , but it is for this topic the same results.

Like I say , the good working mobo(msi6533 with SiS 645/961 chipset) but with a Intel Celleron processor and the bad(msi6340 with chipset KT133 and AMD ATHLON processor )
Both Award Bios

There are the same biosmanufacture " Winbond" nr W49F002UP12B.
PLCC type 32pins 5volt.

So I tried it again with the Awardflasch , but It read the chipset of the good working motherboard , and not the code in the (flashing biosrom with chipset K133) , so I can only save the old bios to the diskette before I will flash . When I will flash the program says "it's not the same system "
the program terminated .
So I stopped with this and waiting on other results.

Hello ,
I have do another test , without the biosrom !! I take the bios out is socket. And start the meanboard .
It's still the same fault ( C0) on the pci card.
What's mean that I guess that the bios is dead or not good !
Is it's normal that you can start the meanboard without bios on board !!

That's weird...
Without the BIOS ROM onboard there should be no POST codes at all (i.e. there is something like 88, FF or 00 on the display of the POST card).

Hi!

I'm still working on my dead mobos', and do have on some of them
the same problem appearance than you.

These mobos' do wake-up, but will freeze in a second or two, just or maybe even well, before reaching the phase when the control should
have been given to the BIOS, i.e. it doesn't matter if you have the
BIOS chip on or not.

Therefore you'll neither get the exact knowledge, if the BIOS chip is bad
or not. So, don't blame the BIOS chip before checking it with Uniflash
on another working mobo, by hot-swapping and "redetecting" the chip.
If Uniflash will recognize it, it's probably OK. But if not, it's still not either
finally sure it's bad, because Uniflash doesn't recognize all the 100's of
different types of chips, just most of them. I do have some chips with
BIOS'es on, which Uniflash doesn't recognize and will declare "unknown",
but they are waking-up without hesitation their own mobo, and maybe
also some other even far relative mobo, too.

So, what's the real problem on these POST freezes after two seconds?

I'm not too sure yet, but assume, that on these mobos', there must have
been happening some unrecognized incident burning some component,
which leads to an unstable or low voltage on some circuit on the mobo,
which causes the mobo not waking-up. For example, on some mobo
I found the CPU core voltage to be 0.61 V instead of the 2.8 or 3.3 V needed ... On another mobo the CPU voltages are good, but still the
same problem appearance, so, some other circuit is lacking the right
voltage ... To have the problem component(s) located, might be a huge,
maybe even impossible work, as there is not anymore any schemes
available for the older mobos' ... Anyway, maybe the most weak
components on a mobo are the electrolyte capacitors (EC's), the
tube-like components, and could be the best target for a first round
checking ...

Another assumption, if this freeze after two second appears just after
a BIOS reflash, is, that something has went wrong during the flashing,
and the BIOS chip has got unrecognizable. This situation could be
cleared more easily just doing the reflash onto another chip. But, if
this doesn't either help, I would bet on a component burn, somehow
strangely related to the flashing ...

I'll come back, if/when having some helpful news on this subject.

Best regards,

Pete V.

Hello Guy's
I found no a nice program on the internet called Awardeditor.
Know I find a lot off information of my old bios romfile that I saved with the hotflash that I trie the do with 6533 and 6340 .
You can edit your own bios now .

Hello Guy's
I tested the MSI 6340 (dead) bios rom with my new 6340 meanboard , and it works fine .
So the bios of my old board is good .
I guess there is something with the chipset , the voltages are ok , but I am not shure . I have no voltage diagram .
So I think it is one for the trash can.

I would at least save the big electrolytic capacitors.
