Hi guys,

Having proper problems trying to update the ram on this machine. The modules and the slots themselves are fine (chopping and changing the ram round shows this).

The ram modules are situated above and below the motherboard - no issues with the machine with the 2gb upgrade above the motherboard but when I install the 2gb upgrade in the slot underneath I get BSOD.

Under many searches through loads of forums it has to be something to do with the bios - tried removing cmos battery etc to reset but no joy. I know someone has written a custom pheonix bios that will resolve this issue but i cannot find a download for it any where!!

Laptop - advent 9117 (rebadged uniwill L75ii8)
Bios type - pheonix
bios version - 1.00DIX
Bios agent plus tells me that the manufacturer is DIXONSXP but i think it's actually manufactured by ecs but don't hold me to that!! lol

Any one have any ideas cos i'm stumped!!

Thanks

ECS is making motherboards, they bought Uniwill that was making laptop motherboards before. They sell their stuff to Advent which is retailing in Dixons. This laptop supports 2GB at maximum, this is by design.

If you are talking about a custom Phoenix bios chances are it's from esupport:

Crucial advised 4gb max and i have 2gb of it under the keyboard but when i have the other 2gb stick in it blue screens. Seen it resolved on with a bios update from another crucial customer but the resolution came from a custom rom so there must be one kicking about somewhere??

Can you somehow refer me to that claim of the other crucial customer? Are you 100% sure they had the exact same model?

Sorry i was mistaken but I have exactly the same issue just this guy is trying to put in 2x1GB

http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Standard-DR ... /td-p/7237

I have also rechecked thru the system advisor as opposed to the system scanner and only lists 2x1GB compatibility but I chose the option at the top of the list on the scan and I've got 2x2GB for just over £40???

Definitely got it running on 2.5GB at the minute thou - got a bios update so gonna try that a see what happens.
