My HP omnibook 6100 doesn't boot anymore.

After showing me all the routine cheching (that resoult ok) just get stucked.

I opened it up, and the motherboad is phisically ok.

I think is a BIOS problem, but for this model, according to the service manual, is not possible to change the chip.
Is instead possible, according to the same manual and according to the phoenix 4.0 user manual flash a new bios in without the computer being able to boot.

Just use a crisis recvery disk (and I now have 1) and a boot block jumper, according to them...

But how I should set it for my computer ?

Please help me.

To be honest, HP has sold some not so good quality laptops a couple of years ago. One of my colleagues has already the 3rd motherboard in his HP laptop. Also harddisk suffers from transient errors in his laptop. So I wouldn't suspect bios problem first.

How did the problem start? Did it come out of a blue by itself or did you or someone else do something specific? Did anyone tamper with the bios settings?

You could try removing the bios battery and main battery for 5 min and then booting

You could try booting without
1. RAM
2 Harddisk
3 bios-battery

please report: does it detect any of these missing?

Did you check the cooler blower is rotating and cooler is clean of dust?

How far it goes? Can you list what you see on the screen?

to start with thanks 4 your time...

It all start with a problem of the HD, that wasn't recognized anymore.
But was happening kind of occasionally.
Than I've updated the BIOS and downloaded some test tool from the HP site, and everything worked good 4 a while.
than it started not booting occasionally, but this time the HD was recognized.
Finally it doen't boot at all!

now...

If I boot without RAM it gives totally black screen, and 1, 3, 3, 1 beeps

If I boot without HD it gets as far as everytime: thas would be...
(if I disable the option "quite boot" in the BIOS setup)

at this point I can enter the BIOS setup,or change boot order or else I see a summar screen, mostly the same information than above plus some more like

than it crashes and show me the -

or, if i enable a quite boot i just see the HP logo just before it crash, showing a blinking "-" on the right of a totally black screen.

The cooler rotate ok, doesn't make weird noise and is not particularly dirty.

Haven't tryed to boot without bios battery yet, first thing I'll do toorrow.

Thanks again for your advices..

It looks like a harddisk error.

Either the operating system files are seriously corrupted or the disk controller is broken.

Did you try if it boots from Windows floppy or CD?
