Don't ask how to hack password. (BIOS Passwords)

I've botched a BIOS update on my Compaq R3000Z (amd64). HP/Compaq email support [offshored to India] says I'll have to send it in, but they also have told me lies like "you can't downgrade to a previous version of the BIOS" so I'm not listening quite yet.

I understand the BIOS boot block functionality. I have a Phoenix BIOS and I think it would work, but I do not have a floppy drive. I've created a bootable CD with the appropriate floppy image. Should this work? (It doesn't seem to) The boot block is said to have minimal functionality and I'm thinking CD hw access to get to a "fake floppy" is probably beyond the minimal.

Should I try a USB key/drive?

Thanks.
