Hello!

I have a problem with my friend's HP-Compaq nx9010 notebook. It had winXP installed on it, with service pack 1. I had to install sp2 because of the wifi-settings. After the install, the notebook restarted, and died with BSOD.
The error was:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (stop 0x00000050)
I thought it was the symantec crap, so I just deleted everything, and boot off from winXP with integrated SP2. Format, copying files, reboot, win logo appears for 2-3 sec, and BSOD again. Same error, no help about where it happens, no dump file, no remarks in the event log (checked with ERD cmmander). I tried tinyXP, win2003, same every time - except one, when it died with an ACPI.sys error, but next time it was the page_fault again.
Of course i flashed the newest bios (phoenix, F.25 from HP site), no luck.
Changed the RAM, same error. Changed hdd, same error.
Then i tried with an oooold winXP, w/o service pack, and that works....wtf.
And the bios is total crappy, no options about acpi/device settings.

Any idea?
thx

Was XP/SP1 factory installed?

Maybe it has some HP/Compaq specific drivers that the SP2 installation replaced?

Can you find a way around without SP2 to get WiFi working?

Yeah, wifi-card works with SP1 with the bundled software. I had to stay at SP1.
Thx for the reply anyway.

BSOD is either some problem with ACPI but even more likely your memory modules are dying. Seen this too many times now.
