Hi.

You can either use WinPhlash to dump the BIOS of the D600
or
you can use the undocumented switches of
self extracting and self executing DELL BIOS update files:

http://www.alsway.com/component/option, ... /topic,1.0

...
<DELLBIOS update program.exe> -writeromfile / -writehexfile / -writehdrfile

Thank you for your reply. Winplash ask for a working bin file bios for dumping the current bios on the laptop. I dont have the bin file with the bios for the D600. Can I use a diferent phoenix bios to dump the bios in Winphlash. With no problems.? Thank You again.

I have dump the bios from the D600 with those programs. But I cant flash it to the D610 laptops. I think the Dell Utility is only extracting the bios Bin file from the executable not the bios installed on the laptop. Thanks

Hi.

following additional switches are able with the DELL Latitude D600 update utility:
D600_A14.EXE

Classic
Reportstatus
Norburesults
Rburesults
Writeromfile
Writehexfile
Writehdrfile
Wipeclean
Wipeall
Verbose
Prgboot
Noreboot
Nopause
Info
Forcetype
Forceit
Factory
Edvu
Boot

D600_A14.EXE -switch

for example:
D600_A14.EXE -Info

You can use -writeromfile and -writehdrfile to extract the BIOS file,
but you would need a EEPROM programming device to write the D600 rom file to the D610 BIOS.

FYI, the link to the site with the parameters of the dell bios update utility has changed:
http://www.alsway.com/index.php?option= ... &topic=1.0

But you will be able to extract the image only from the exe file with writeromfile or writehdrfile. I think you want to extract the image that you are currently using.. I'm not sure if winphlash will dump the image correctly...[/url]

Hi.

Following method would be best to solve the problem:

Download:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/D610_A03.exe -- BIOS: Dell Latitude D610 System BIOS, English, Latitude D610, A03
http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/D600_A14.EXE -- BIOS: Dell Latitude D600 System BIOS, English, Latitude D600, A14

Execute:
a)
D600_A14.EXE -writeromfile
or
D600_A14.EXE -writehdrfile

This extracts the ROM / HDR file to:
D600_A14.rom
and:
D600_A14.hdr

Rename the files to bios.rom/bios.hdr and compress one* of them to bios.gz.

After this, copy
D610_A03.exe & bios.gz to your DELL Latitude D610.

b)
On the DELL Latitude D610 in DOS mode, you should start:

D610_A03.exe -readgzfile

Now, D610_A03.exe uses the extracted and recompressed BIOS file from D610_43.exe for the BIOS FLASH.

*=I am not able to say if the .hdr or
the .rom file is necessary to compress and to use for the BIOS FLASH.

This command is for extracting the bios from the update file. It does not copy the bios on the laptop. The bios installed does not show the Dell logo on boot. If I do that, It will copy a bios with a Dell logo from the Dell bios update. I give up on this. Thank's for been very friendy and hepfull on this matter.
