hi,

so i got hold of a thinkpad and i need to flash the bios so it supports xp.I have downloaded the bios file and made a bootable cd with drdose on it.

here is my problem when i run the flash program it starts ok then it asks for me to extract the file so it can flash.

well i can't seem to do this. I downloaded the bios diskette from ibm site

were can i extract the file to so i can flash the bios

i have formatted the drive to FAT now and tried to copy it over but i just get

"insert a blank diskette in drive c:"

"diskette error try another"

why won't it do it?

is it because the bios is embedded in this exe file and its looking for a diskette
can;t i extract the file and write it to c:

?

thanks in advance

any help would be appreciated

In thread "IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update" Sebi writes

"The flash tool for the 600x (doesn´t need a boot disk, can be started from within Win) works for 600e too."

Plsease pm Sebi for details

Gags,

I saw you already got an answer in the other thread.

For 600E upgrade, search for PIII with package type "MMC2" or "MMC-2". There are plenty for sale in eBay.

Yes, it is the right type.

If you just throw it in, it will run 600MHz.

In the above mentioned thread there are mods that allow it to run
- 650MHz (easy)
- 750MHz (easy but requires booting on battery)
- 810MHz (may not be stabile depending on luck)
