There is a working solution for 127 error and L2 initializatin in Windows and Linux. There is a working solution to SpeedStep.

The only thing that has not been solved is that after suspend/resume (Fn-F4) you have to set L2 on manually. For me this is not worth risking a dead motherboard associated with testing the modded bios.

So those guys whos ask someone else to do the job of bios modding should at least volunteer their 600E to be used for testing the modded bios.

Anyone volunteering?

8)totaly agree with you sharedoc about risk taking, I HAVE 2 TP 600 MOBOS that i am willing to experiment beta bios on ,basically the bioses are similar if someone with the skill is willing to mod the tp600 non e bios ,then i will give it a go +chances are if it works ok on a tp600 then i can't see why the p111 modded 600e bios won't work too, considering bios bin files +flash procedures are similar, once i see the beta bios hasn't corrupted on the 600 then i am willling to try on my 600e also, unless i know exactly where the 600e bios is on the mobo, cause i got a spare good bios on another pin damaged 600e mobo i can swap the chip over (incase of failiure)+solder my spare bios on the good mobo.
*sharedoc do you mean that if i only change the crystal, the pci bus increases proportianly with the fsb%?(ie-10%+crystal =10%+@36mghz pci speed?because i want to increase the pci bus mainly ,not so much for cpu speed. *smb bus? did i miss a feature of softfsb?cause theres no support for my pll w258 cypress ,so i saw? :?

600 does not help all the way, because bios is different. But 600 will help test the modded bios packing with the correct checksum.

Will need anyway at final stages someone's 600E to use as a guinea pig.

-----------

PCI bus will overclock with the ratio of the crystals. Also IDE bus will overclock because it follows PCI. PCI will overclock even if using Turbo-PLL.

w258 cypress/Softfsb: ok, it was just a hunch.

8O thats what i mean,by trying on my non e mobo ,a non e modded bios
we can find out if the checksum don't corrupt the bios, that way if all goes well ,then i'm willing to take the chance on my 600e ,because checksum errors have been evaluated with the previous attempts.
both the non e mobo .i don't mind if i lose these 2 ,aslong as we can sort out the checksum situation first atleast ,then we have a leg to stand on come tp600e flash time.slowly but surely we can iron out the bugs ,as far as checksum errors go if we try on a similar flash method inwhich the tp 600+tp600e both share.

*so if i have a 14.8 mghz crystall +i install a 24mghz crystal ,that would mean the fsb defaults from say 100 to 162 fsb? :? i know this iz way too high but in theory iz this what the 24 mghz crystall would do? 8O

24MHz crystal is propably too high.

Try stepwise 17,73, 18,432, 20, 22,11 MHz crystals before 24MHz.

Take a copy of the harddisk, because you will hit unstabile systems at some stage anyway.

Has anyone here managed to overclock their TP with a PIII 850 yet?

Well I got the 850 MHz MMC-2 module in my ThinkPad 770Z right now, up and running.

The machine was born with a P-II 366 MHz.
The chipset Intel 440BX supports P-III, but not SpeedStep as an automatic feature, because of the 82371EB PIIX4E.
To my knowledge, machines with 440BX/82371EB PIIX4M supports SpeedStep automatically, like the ThinkPad 600X.

Anyway.
This P-III 850 module runs at 700 MHz at the moment, only with the 127error-mod applied.

In time I will try The SpeedStep Mod and perhaps The 108FSB Mod/Vcore Mod.
That will have to wait though.

Going from P-II 366 MHz to P-III 700 MHz and putting in a Hitachi 7K60 gave me a completely new machine.
Changing CCFL in the 13.7" TFT-unit also gave 3-4 years of new life.

Upgrading the two great ThinkPad series, 600 and 770 does pay off.
Not if you see it, like a raw cost-benefit compared to newer machines, but in hard first hand knowledge.

The way I see it, these ThinkPads can be upgraded with the P-III 850 MHz MMC-2 module:

ThinkPad 390E/X, 600E/X, 600X SpeedStep, 770X/Z.
And so can every notebook with a MMC-2 slot, Intel 440BX/82371EB PIIX4E/M.
All would very likely work with the P-III 850 MHz MMC-2 module.
It's very very hard to see...why they wouldn't :!:

Yup.

The backlight had worked for more than 5 years and needed replacement.
A CCFL tube is used as backlight.

Oh. The usual.

Very dim light. Compared to TFT-screens in new machines, it had less than half brightness.

Is it completely worn out, the light is kinda reddish.
Actually the colortemperature drops.

The tube I used, came from a TFT-unit from a ThinkPad R30.
I was rather desperate, so I bought the entire TFT-unit and gave way too much for it.

Is somebody installed MS Windows 2003 Server on TP600E?

After installation I can not install PowerLeap and consequently, to enable L2 Cache!: (

Is there any other ways to enable L2 Cache?

Also, I can not enabled a sound. Service Windows Audio has started, but in adjustments of a sound all options are inaccessible.

One more problem, - there not installed some drivers. What particularly to identify it is not possible, since all of them are displayed as a question sign.

Can somebody say somthing about how to fix it?

Beforehand I thank!

Yup it worked. Tp600e running @ 525Mhz. Thanks sharedoc.
BTW @ 108 Mhz I get a lot of error 108s , 105 seems stable.

8) RAN 3K3 on my tp 390x and all was well ,however no pleap is needed on that notebook but 2k3 supported all the devices, conversely see if there are downloads for tp600e audio files 'w2k/xp or generic drivers that match your audio .*you may have to setup pleap via regedit or reload xp + upgrade to 2k3 in the same directory so your settings are saved.i will try 2k3 myself +see whats going on when i get the chance.

pardon me for asking but why would you want to run server 2k3, on a old pad?

I´m currently looking for a way to solder a 2nd bios to the board. Having done this I´ll volunteer for anything considering the bios mod.

Besides that, I think it would be helpful if you coud share your information about the 127 error and the cmos ram bit to disable L2 init, sharedoc.
