Hi all, new user here!

I have an old NEC Versa LX laptop with a PII 366 (MMC2) on a 440bx based mobo. I am trying to upgrade to PIII 600 (MMC2). The module fits just fine, it looks exactly like the old one. The problem is that whenever I boot i just get beeps. I think it has to do with the bios not allowing 100mhz fsb. I know that NEC only officially supports PII CPUs, but my understanding is that the volatge and pinout on the MMC2s are the same. I am running the latest bios (releaseed in 2001) and would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I noticed that the LXi appears to use the same chipset as the LX and supports PIII MMC2 modules. The only difference seems to be the video card. Should I be able to flash an LX into an LXi?

the same chipset but there more difference than the video card. The power circuitry around the CPU and chipset is different. The LX bios cannot handle the 600 for a reason..

First off, thanks for the reply! :D

So I guess that means I am out of luck tryin gto use the CPU. Is there anyway I can control the FSB with the CPU I've got. I do not care so much about overclocking the CPU as I do utilizing the full speed of my RAM, which is currently being forced to 66mhz.

I think you CAN fit a 400MHz CPU, that one can be fitted in the LX and runs 100MHz on the outside.
