netflix movies wont play on my TV when my laptop is hooked u

Why wont netflix movies play on my TV when my laptop is hooked up via VGA cable? I recently bought a VGA cable to hook up my LCD laptop to my LCD tv. It works fine in most cases, but for some reason netflix instant movies do not. The movies play on laptop but the television just shows a purple box. Does anyone know why this is or how i can fix it? Thanks in advance!

I suspect you have onboard nVidia graphics.

Generally, legacy interlaced TV formats are not supported via the VGA connector. Its not going to work with a simple cable adapter. You would have to use a 3rd party VGA to S-video transcoder box to get a 480i signal for your Television.
