Hello
Sorry I am a newbie here and after searching for hours through previous post and doing multiple searches I cannot find an answer to my question.

I recently reformatted my HD on an EI Systems notebook after a HDD faliure.
Loaded everything again but although I have the correct drivers for the onboard sound Via Technologies AC97 codec combo (WDM) which worked fine before, when I try to install them again the notebook reports 'onboard sound not activated in BIOS' and refuses to load.
I reboot and enter the BIOS screen but there are no settings available to enable or disable the onboard sound.
Could anyone tell me if there is a hidden menu via some shorcut to find these settings.

My BIOS is as follows....
American Megatrends version 1.08
Release date: 10/13/2003
Size: 512kb
Boot Devices: Floppy, Hard Disk, CD-ROM, ATAPI ZIP, LS-120
Capabilities: Flash Bios, Shadow Bios, Selectable Boot, EDD, BBS
Supported Standards: DMI, APM, ACPI, ESCD, Pnp
Expansion Capabilities: ISA, PCI, AGP, USB

I have full system specs if needed as I ran the Everest test program and saved the results.

Any help greatly appreciated, and sorry if this is posted in the wrong section

This sounds more like using the wrong drivers or a missing UAA/HDA patch from Microsoft. What is shown in your device manager?

Hi
Not sure what info you are asking about from the device manager but presumably relating to sound.

Everest reported the following

Audio Controller Type: Intel 82901DB(M) ICH4
Codec Name: Unknown
Codec ID: FFFFFFFFh

If I dont use the audio driver setup package and go directly to audio driver update in device manager I can ınstall the drivers ok but the system reports the device failed to start and has a problem code 10

I know the drivers are correct as they worked fine before the format

Looking on other forums they all point to enabling the onboard sound from the BIOS setup menu however there is no option available in the menu. I have the advanced tab but only the IDE setup, CD-ROM setup and IRQ settings are available. Thats why I asked if there was a hidden menu of some kind for the onboard sound
I wondered if maybe I have a corrupted BIOS and the onboard sound settings are missing?

Any help greatly appreciated

It is an EI SYSTEMS notebook made by Dixons and bought from PC World. Their support is not worth writing about. They sell then forget!!!

If this helps this is the everest reports on the system
