Hi,

Since more than a week, I can't save any changes on the Phoenix Bios.

If I turn off my laptop and unplug from the wall outlet and I start again after a few hours, the Bios came back with the same settings as before.

If I reboot my laptop after a few minutes (not unplugged from wall outlet), there is no problem, it can save my last settings.

Please check on the attached files my Bios version and laptop models.

Thanks in advance

Start with replacing the CMOS battery. This laptop is old enough to have that issue since it is using a standard CR2032 3V lithium coin cell. They last anywhere between 3 and 10 years...

there's a video on how to open that section of the laptop here:

Basically do that video but instead of putting the battery back, replace with a brand new one. Should be available for US$1 or something.

hi Edwin,

I have not yet changed the battery.

How do you explain that if I turn off and unplugged from the outlet wall for 10 minutes and I plug again and turn On my laptop, the Bios loaded with my new settings, and not the old settings ? Is it still the CMOS battery ? 8O

Can still be the bios battery. As said, they last between 3 and 10 years and slowly go lower voltage so can be sometimes it will keep the settings, sometimes not.

What I don't understand is why I don't have any beeps from the bios neither error bios message ?

Unfortunately, I can't access to the cmos battery as on my model is different to the v3515.

I had to remove all the bottom case and I don't know the way to do it.

And I found a service manual. However that is too big to post here. The battery is located on the side of the CPU and the memory slots, roughly halfway between them towards the front of the laptop (not where the screen is). I hope this is enough clues, if not, we'll have to upload that service manual somewhere...

Thanks Edwin, but this drawing can't help me.

I know more or less the location of cmos battery. The trouble is how do I remove the entire bottom case. I can see the CPU and memory, but the cmos battery is under the bottom case. A video will be great, but I didn't find anything on youtube.

Has this service manual 36 pages ? If yes, I got it.

You are not taking on account the fact that the bios didn't beep and no error was displayed to tell me that cmos need to replace it, why ?

OK, let me know about this service manual.

If this one, can help me to remove the entire bottom case and get access to the cmos battery, you can attached file here as you had suggested me.

What about the last question ?

If the bios battery start to go empty there's no real definite symptom. It will start to behave "strange" and finally the system will appear dead while in fact only the bios battery needs replacement.

I have added the manual compressed and cut up to 1MB pieces.

If you actually read the manual it has instructions on how to reach the mainboard for replacement, if you follow the steps you can see how to remove the bottom case and eventually reach that CR2032 3V lithium coin cell battery.

I read the manual and I see for the motherboard and how to remove the upper case, but nothing about the bottom case, where the cmos is located.

I will check again one more time.
