I have a Time computers UK - A430 notebook - its some kind of generic notebook which has appeared in different guises, I think one is the FIC A430 notebook.
to cut a long tale short , the motherboard has a faulty internal HDD controller and so will not accept any HDD.
All other functions are fine on the laptop, e.g I can boot to knoppix or puppy linux and have sound , everything is fine.

What I am after is a bios upgrade for this laptop especially so I can boot from USB , or at least a better quality Bios than my current one.
Being used to Award or AMI Bios's I am not impressed at all with this phoenix rubbish.

My current bios is Phoenix v4.00 release 6

if I can boot to USB then possibly I can boot a modified version of Windows 98 that can run from USB that I have heard of on the net.
or I can at least boot easier using puppy or linux of some kind.
without the need for CD or floppy boot discs
