I have an old Pentium 166MHz on an Abit SM5-A motherboard, and its BIOS is Award 4.51PG (i430VX-Ali5123-2A59GA1FC-4Y), (updated with IT5V5_4Y.BIN). What are the limitations of this BIOS? Also, is the maximum 128MB with this motherboard? Thanks.
Intel VX chipset limits the amount of RAM to 128MB max. and 64MB of it cacheable. Limitations of the BIOS unknown but most probably it features the Award 32GB bug.

Hmm, I was afraid of that. I was planning to replace the pair of 10GB hard disks with a 40GB hard disk. Of course, if I used Linux, it'd still be able to use the entire hard disk regardless of the BIOS.cp wrote:Intel VX chipset limits the amount of RAM to 128MB max. and 64MB of it cacheable. Thanks.
