Hi,

I'm looking for a BIOS for the PCChips board displayed under
http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m863gv15c.asp

All I can find from the manufacturer is V1.5A, the support of PCChips or ECS is unfortunately not helping me on this issue.

So far I have spend a couple of hours searching the web in vain.
I have seen a BIOS string from that board elsewhere that goes like this:
62-0100-001131-00101111-112204-SIS741-863GV15C-Y2KC

Any help in getting the correct file is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

I found V5.1A on the official PC CHIPS site. The link is below. Not sure if this is the one you seek..or if it has the features you need.

Hi NJKEV4FUN,

I haven't tried V5.1A yet and I'm unsure whether this is a good thing to do since the versions are too different.

To be honest, I have never thought about that it will be so difficult in getting V1.5C.

Thanks
Frank

There are a lot of PcChips and ECS motherboards without support.
Yours can be a ECS K7M863G too.
You can try to contact them:

PcChips M863G v1.5C
Support@ PCCHIPSUSA.com

ECS K7M863G/K7M863AG

BIOS for PCChips Board M863G V1.5C desperately seeked
All the PcChips (maybe ECS Elitegroup too) motherboards with 'C' PCB versions are exclusively for motherboards with processor on-board.
I have a machine here with a PcChips M863G V3.0C:
http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m863gv30c.asp
Release 10/14/2004
62-0100-001131-00101111-101404-SIS741-863GV30C
Can you make a backup of your BIOS?
I will appreciate it.
I think the only difference between version 1.5A and 1.5C is processors support. Version 1.5A support AMD Sempron.

PCCHIPS introduces a full line-up of motherboards embedded processor

I'm not sure, but I think PcChips hasn't plane to offer BIOS support for this line of products.

Hi Kuriaki,

thanks for your comments. I have contacted pcchipsusa already and they've sent me to pcchips support in the Netherlands since I live in Germany. They have sent a file 041122s.rom to my attention which obviously is V1.5C. After flashing the board with the rom file the PC hangs after: Checking NVRAM...

Meanwhile I got a new BIOS chip containing V1.5A which turns the PC alive again. I was able to rewrite the other Winbond chip so I can always try a nonfunctional version now. To answer your question, I'm unable to save the BIOS chip content, means I have lost my V1.5C forever.

Taking a look at your FTP site I saw V1.5A, V3.0C, V5.1A and V7.1C. Which one do you recommend?

Thanks
Frank

PS: Neither PCChips nor ECS is very supportive with my issue. Since the manufacturer doesn't help me, who can?

They have sent you your OWN BIOS !!
041122s.rom

So... V1.5A BIOS is working fine?
Run BIOS Agent to know more about this BIOS.

As you can rewrite the Winbond chip, I recommend you the V7.1C version

Hi Kuriaki,

I have spent some more minutes testing the different versions you recommended. Starting with V7.1C the monitor stays dark and the PC seems to be completely dead. The same happens when I try V5.1A.

After flashing every new BIOS I took out the battery and shortened their connectors for at least 5 mins.

It got tremendously better with V3.0C. This version is not only working, it shows back Pro 3000A+ instead of AMD Athlon 1800 XP+.
As a conclusion V3.0C behaves like V1.5C although they are different. All I can remember about V1.5C is that I could set a threshold for the CPU temperature.

Anyway, I regard this issue as resolved. Many thanks for all your help.

Best wishes
Frank

BTW: I have made a phone call to ECS support in the States yesterday and they told me that the only difference between V1.5A and V1.5C is the CPU support.

the AG ones are 031231S.rom & 040115S.rom
the G one's are 031222S.rom & again 040115S.rom

I could email them to you if you like, lmk...

Iv'e been archiving MoBo ftp's now for about 6 years & have 9 DVD's
& numerous CD's full of bios/manuals if anyone's after something
old..

And 'C' PCB versions don't need a BIOS update for new CPU's support.

IF a C-Revision has no new Bios then it's best to use the non-C Revision Bios (if existing). You newer know what Pcchips changed from Rev 1.5 to Rev 3.0.

Your best Bios should be the Rev 1.5A Bios - that's the Bios for your board without CPU and it does not use fake CPU names.

Ok, ok, after starting Windows XP with the V3.0C BIOS I was stuck again.
In order to save the rescue installation I decided to go back to V1.5A.
Everything is working now like before, still I miss V1.5C a bit but that's the way it goes. If some of you ever find a V1.5C BIOS in the future, please let me know.

Your overall help was great. This was my first incident in over 10 years when a BIOS flash went wrong.

Thanks
