Sony has crippeled the bios on these! only choice you have is boot order and save settings ????wtf???
if anyone can find a bios/flash/hack for these that allows me to turn this on let me know what I need to provide to help.
this is for a non-profit.org so if it can be done cheep that would be great.
these are still on warrenty so I guess I need to insert or not change the serial number.

Thanks

I wonder if the Wake-On-LAN hardware is present in this laptop. Makes no sense to do so, costs money, most likely isn't there.

Ask Sony if it has WOL to begin with before trying to hack it into the bios and find out it doesn't work because the hardware isn't there.

The intel 82567V-2 NIC is WOL capable and they confirm it works.
they will not support it as SONY embedded it into the MB and contracted to support it as a MB part. (they refuse to honor that)
also locked out are VT and hardware code execuition and who knows what else!

I just need to poke a 0x01 into the WOL bit that now holds 0x0.
I think I need to flash the entire BIOS to get this going. but I would accept an easyier fix.

Thanks

so you are saying the PXE code is already present in the bios as well? No separate eeprom used for that?

No I think PXE is on the NIC. enableing/allowing it to function is first BIOS 0 or 1, then advanced power settings enable device to wol, then NIC allow device to wake on; magic packet, directed packet, ect.

I have done everything to enable this in software to no avail due to the BIOS stopping me.

I found entire sights devoted to this issue but not my feature, http://feature-enable.blogspot.com/

This sony is a 64bit machine running on a 16bit BIOS that is crippeled so I need to dump the bios, find and flip WOL from 0 to 01 and flash it back.
once I can do that I need to script it and reflash 320 PC's so I can do administrative tasks remotely even if they are powered off.

Thanks,

the PXE code is inside some programmable area and exactly, this means it is not inside the main bios. So if Sony didn't provide you with the actual non-volatile memory cell space anywhere on your board (costs) near the NIC it means no PXE.

Nonetheless, interesting read on how to break EFI "security" 8)

I can interrupt the boot and PXYboot from the network so I think that is enabled.
Wake-On-LAN is blocked normally in the bios you can choose to enable this under power settings but sony removed any choice for the user in the bios.

Check the BIOS for WOL. For WoWLAN, i think its in the device manager
You have to go to your bios setting during startup.
