I found a thread at http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=30405 (noting especially posts #1 and #37), for which the thead stater alleges to have sucessfully flashed the Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS onto the Foxconn C51GU01 using WinFlash. The linked WinFlash instruction page is not valid.

I wish to crossflash C51GU01 to 6100K8MA-RS.

Would a flash from DOS be better than using WinFlash?

What utility and parameters should be used? I was planning to use AwardBIOS Flash Utility V8.60H.

Also, how may I acquire a backup of the current BIOS?
Current BIOS does not seem to be in an easily extractable form and is available:
ftp://ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_supp ... 04BIOS.exe

Should Uniflash work to flash the Foxconn C51GU01 motherboard BIOS?

first you should make a backup of your old bios. you could use uniflash for that and see if uniflash works with your flash/chipset. at least the ITE8712F is supported by uniflash, so it _should_ work.
if you've made a backup of your original bios you could try to use awardflash to crossflash. anyway i think that awardflash would warn about the mainboard ids not matching. use switches '/py/sn' (program yes, save no) to program a new bios without making a backup of the old bios.
if it fails go for uniflash.

I have been able to extract the current BIOS *.bin file from ftp://ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_supp ... 04BIOS.exe for my backup.

In the past I would use the /QI switch ("Qualify flash part number with source file") to crossflash BIOS.

Foxconn seem to use for its regular flash, where "AFU860H" is the Award Flash Utility,:

Code: Select all

AFU860H 54AW1P40.bin /py/sy/cc/cd/cp/wb
Should I also use /Wb to update the boot block? Perhaps I should also use the /cd abd /cp flags.

I have sucessfully flashed Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS BIOS on Foxconn C51GU01 using awdflash V8.60H (specifically "awdflash /py/sn/cc/cd/cp/Wb/QI"). /QI was necessary for the crossflash. Also, removing the CMOS battery seemed to be necessary to correctly clear the CMOS.

Some issues that existed when using the Foxconn C51GU01 BIOS seem to no longer exist using the 6100K8MA-RS BIOS. However, new issues seem to now exist.

With the 6100K8MA-RS BIOS, power management seems to be different.
  1. First, Power LED no longer is lit. Could power LED pins be mapped to different pins for the different BIOSes?
  2. When using the Hibernate feature in Windows, the Hibernate progress bar is shown to completion and the computer, less the hard disk, stay s on. The hard disk seems to be the only component to stop functioning after "Hiberating"; manually turing off the machine may then (necessarily) be performed by holding down power button for greater than four seconds. Resume of Windows seems to occur correctly.
  3. Onboard Infra Red device was detected by Windows after crossflash. I am unceartain if the circuitry for an infra red device exists on the C51GU01 motherboard (connector is known to not exist).
  4. System generally seems to be more latent.
Could issues numbered 2 and 4 be resolved by reinstalling Windows? Perhaps BIOSes used different ACPI specification.

Lastly, it may be relevant to mention that C51GU01 is of µBTX form factor, while 6100K8MA series is of µATX form factor.

Hi Everyone,

I have unlocked the bios for the C51GU01. Do not cross flash as it seems to cause problems. Please go here, have a read and download the kit with the unlocked bios.
