1st the facts:
ASUS P5W w\8Mb ROM AMI BIOS that needs to be flashed to support my CPU (840EE).

Is it more important to hot swap ROM in same sized (8Mb), or same sourced BIOS (AWARD or AMI)?
I have a M2N32 & a STRIKER EXTREME that have a 8Mb chip, but BIOS is AWARD; I have other boards that are AMI, but ROM is only 4Mb.

Is it even possible to cross flash, and whose flasher would I use?

I do not want to buy a early CPU to just update the BIOS; or does someone want to loan one for the update?

Okay, solved this the easy way.
I looked at ASUS' CPU support list, and found that my STRIKERS' X6800 was supported in an earlier BIOS than the 840EE (?)
So I swapped in the Conroe, <ALT> <F2> into EZ Flash2 off of a USB thumb drive, and updated the BIOS to 3001.
I can't believe I RMA'd this board when new because I thought it was bad. ASUS says the Smithfield was supported since BIOS 2103, but board showed BIOS 2604 was installed when I finally got video from it....
I'm just happy a build I had shelved over a year ago is finally up & running!
