Hi,

I need a BIOS update as there are some stability issues with my OS (XP SP2).

The BIOS software string is 13/12/2000; i810-NS363-6A69MV3FC-00.

I've been told that I would need Award Flasher 8.x and the update data file. Where would I find these. I am not able to locate the correct download on the PCPartner (motherboard manufacturer) website.

And also can anyone please tell me if my current BIOS supports 48 bit LBA (whatever that is!!) ? I want to stitch to a 160 GB hard drive and I'm told that I would need BIOS software that supports that.

Thanks a lot.

there is no need for the bios to support LBA48 since your OS already does. the only thing the bios needs to do is NOT to crash on hdd detection and to detect a hdd size that enables you to create a reasonable boot partition (with Winblows XP that would be ~2GB, with Linux it would be ~20MB).

btw. stability issues? did you check the cpu cooling, the ram modules (with memtest86(+)) and the mainboard capacitors?
If you email me include [WIMSBIOS] in the subject.

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply.

If I have undersood your message correctly, does it mean that my current BIOS + OS (Win XP SP2) will support a 160 GB drive and allow me to make 60, 60, and 40 GB partitions??

Besides, the problem I have is that even when I have installed OS afresh after a complete format, the OS starts to have problems within few days: Eg. Computer deos not "Turn off" but "Restarts"; Msconfig does not start; I cannot invoke Task manager, etc. And eventually it stops booting even. I was told that these problems would be solved after a BIOS update. So What should I do?? Should I update the BIOS?? If yes, where would I find the BIOS update flasher and the update data?

Thanks.

It seems that the BIOS flasher and update data is availabe at : http://www.pcpartner.com/pcpartner/supp ... 0.htm#810e.

But I don't know which one to download out of the several versions.

Pls help.

Thanks.

The site has images to compare, click on the layout section of each board series to get an image. If an image matches your board check the board identifier code, it's written onto the board in the 35-xxxx-xx format and check the board it matches to. Some boards have two or three Bios versions listed so please only flash if you know what you are doing.

The latest Bios version seem to be from 2000 or 2001, no guarantee for native 48Bit support - you may have to rely on the OS in this case. Thos issues you have may be an incorrect ACPI implementation in your Bios that might be solved with a new Bios. Another reason may be a general instability caused by RAM or your board - check for bad capacitors.

Hi,

How to identify the "bad capacitors" that you have mentioned in your message?

Thanks.

Gentlemen, One more problem. I've looked on my motherboard for a number in the format 35-xxxx-xx but found nothing. Where on the motherboard would I find it? And what if it's not there at all?? How do I download the correct BIOS update?

Continuing from my earlier query, wimsbios does not have motherboard manufacturer details for my bios software string i.e. 12/13/2000-i810-NS363-6A69MV3FC-00. What should I do?
