G'day everyone,

I've been looking around on the net to try and find the latest BIOS for this motherboard and can't seem to find it.

I've tried visiting the manufacturer's website but it seems to be down and I've been looking around the net as well but to no avail.

If anyone could help out it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to try a couple of sites that are currently down:

I found the last BIOS version, dated 9/28/98, for the Octek Rhino 12+ here:
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/d ... rid=125126
You'll have to jump through a few hoops to download the file but it is there. Just use Login:DRIVERS, Password:ALL to get access or you can create your own membership account.
The file contains the BIOS file 98046.BIN and the flash utility. I downloaded it myself and looked at it. The BIOS does not support AMD mobile K6+ CPU's even though your motherboard has the correct CPU voltage settings available. That can be fixed.
It doesn't appear to have support for hardrives over 32GB's but that can be fixed also.
Your motherboard looks like a good candidate for a BIOS patch.

G'day everyone,

thanks alot for all the help in finding this BIOS, it's been much appreciated.

I ended up having to use UniFlash to flash it as the flash program included with the BIOS came up with unknown flash type (Uniflash identified it and had no problems flashing it).

For the extras that Uranium235 mentioned, they aren't too much of a concern for me at all - the computer only has a Pentium 200 and a 4.3 Gig HDD, the main reason I was updating it was due to a problem with ACPI being enabled in Windows (98SE) but I think it has been fixed now.

Thanks again for all your help.

Post Note:

It seems now that after flashing the BIOS and rebooting the system a few times I've come across a problem which I'm unsure of the solution.

After switching the computer on the BIOS will do the usual POST but it seems to just stop after detecting the drives untill I press a key on the keyboard at which point it will continue to boot untill the Windows boot screen. To get it to load any further I have to keep tapping keys on the keyboard untill it gets into Windows.

Any ideas on this?

(I did reset the BIOS to setup defaults after flashing as well)

Thanks again.

The 98 Bios was only designed to run on Rev 2.4 motherboards, older Revs had a 97 Bios as latest.

I somewhere have a Rhino12+ board laying around and I remember some testing with the 2.4 Bios but it was instable, crashing and other malfunctions on a Rev 2.x board.

It seems the board I have is a Rev. 2.1.

I've tried to flash back the old BIOS but UniFlash and awdflash come up with an error about the size not matching. Is there any way around this so that I can go back to the older BIOS?

Thanks again.

G'day,

I looked on the floppy that I saved the old BIOS to (I backed up the old one before flashing using the awdflash program) and the file size for it is 393,216 bytes (384KB) and the newer one is 131,072 bytes (128KB).

As I was typing this post I tried those links you posted (ajzchips) again and was able to download an earlier BIOS. Ive now flashed it in and the system boots fine again (the bios i grabbed is dated 26 March 1998).

Thanks all for the help on this.

Original BIOS files from Octek are 128KB sized:

More than 100,000 BIOS strings in my database just now!
