USB problems on Lucky Star Mboard with Via Apollo VP4

Hi, please can someone help?

I have a Lucky Star Motherboard with a Via Apollo VP4 chipset.

The id is 03/29/1999-vp4-686a-2a5lhl1ac-06

Chipset is vp4-686a//via xLH

BIOS version Award BIOS V4.51PG

If I enable the onboard USB the system will not boot, and if I install a PCI USB card, then it does not run properly. I've tried two different USB cards in all of the PCI slots, and Windows recognises it, but says there's a problem with it, or the driver.

I've deleted the drivers, removed it from the system, and reinstalled, all to no avail. I've tried all the options with the onboard USB both enabled and disabled, still no joy.

I hoped that upgrading the BIOS would help, but the Lucky Star site on WIMS BIOS site is unavailable.

Please can anyone help?

Thanks Soupy, this looks like the right place, but my knowledge of German is not good, and I can't find the BIOS for my Motherboard on this site.

Given the drastic consequences if I get it wrong, I can't try these out to see if they work.

Do you know which one is for my board?

It SEEMS like you have a 5MVP4. Is there anything written on the board itself that would support that?

Thanks Soupy, you certainly know your way around Motherboards!

I've printed out a picture and spec. and will check at the weekend, the PC is at my daughters house.

By the way, there seem to be lots of pictures of pretty girls on these web sites as well as Motherboards, are they another feature of the motherboard that I haven't yet found out how to enable?

Perhaps I need a different BIOS upgrade for that!

Since a lot of manufacturers don't support their older stuff it's up to individuals to put info online and most of the times this is done on free webspace but at a price: adverts for 1001 things and guess what is selling best...
