I have a pentium II 300Mhz processor.I just bought an 80gig Seagate hard drive but my computer won't read it. I was using a 4gig hard drive but got sick of it.I couldn't load anything on it cause its capacity its too small.I used a software to detect my bios information.

Can be Updated (flashed) : BIOS currently supports this feature
BIOS Manufacturer : American Megatrends
BIOS ID : 61-1029-000747-00101111-071595-M747
BIOS Date : 07/15/95
Chipset : SiS600 rev 17
Super I/O Chip : ITE 8661/SiS 6801 found at port 279h

I have tried to look for the bios upgrade for my computer's specification but I can't seem to find them. Can somebody out there please help me.

Check out The PC-Chips Lottery, "Start your journey here if you DO KNOW which board you own!", select M747. Then you need to check which version you have, usually written near the keyboard connector. Links to ajzchips's site for manual ("bandwidth limit exceeded", try tomorrow), BIOS at ftp://ftp.pcchips.com.tw/bios/M747/

There is no *.exe for upgrade. I don't know how thise files are supposed to help with a bigger hard drive.

As your BIOS includes the string "1029" I would guess that you currently have the "1029S" BIOS. Release.txt says that is the oldest on the site.
I would update to the 990525 BIOS and use an appropriate AMI flasher utility. Check out the FAQ at the main site or look at the "Collected Wisdom" for a step-by-step guide.

where do I put the "990525.rom" file the computer. Do I have to boot the computer and install it @ Dos or do I have to put in the systems folder.
I thought this was going to be easy, but it doesn't sound good to me.Anyway its worth a try. It's not like iam losing anything major.I apprecaite your replies.

What you do is update your BIOS. This involves rewriting the BIOS ROM using the .rom file and a utility designed to write to Flash EPROM memory - a "flash" program.

Please go to http://www.wimsbios.com and read the FAQ

If after reading this you do not wish to update the BIOS, you can go to your HDD manufacturer's site and download a disk manager utility such as EzDrive; or you can buy a PCI IDE controller such as a Maxtor or Promise controller but make sure that it has its own BIOS on board

Please make sure you really have a PCB Rev 3.0 - with older or newer Rev you may lost Floppy and serial ports using a 3.0 Bios
