I'm working on a machine for someone which I thing has a motherboard which is discontinued. The bios wont recognise the drive at all but I know it's good as I've tried it in another machine.

The drive is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80GB model number ST380011A

As best I can find the motherboard is a Gemlight and the information I've managed to find via www.plasma-online.de is that it's a GMB-P5ST-A, 2A5IIG39, SiS 5598 4MB, 4PCI 3ISA 4SIMM 2DIMM ESS audio.

On the boot up screen where the memory counts there's two references which may be of use. At the top it says.

P5ST-A Ver 1.0a 11/05/1997 (146-C-25)

At the bottom of the screen there is similar information as follows.

11/05/97-SiS-5598-(P5ST-A)C-00

As I see it I need a bios upgrade for the machine to see the new drive. I've tried Gemlights site which is down and also the links found on here but with no luck. I've looked around the Award site as wekk but again I've had no luck.

Hopefully someone here can help me out as I'm in despirate need of getting this sorted.

Thanks in advance.

Tricky, the nearest matches I have are:

Code: Select all

Gemlight DTK
GMB-P57SAX	PAM-0070S E0	2A5IIG3AC	Pentium ATX SiS 5598 Motherboard w/VGA, Sound and Super I/O
             PAM-0070S E1	2A5IIG3BC	Pentium ATX SiS 5598 Motherboard w/VGA, Sound and Super I/O
Can you post or email your BIOS ?

What is it you need to know? I'm a bit confused as to which part of the BIOS you're wanting.

Thanks for the response.

The actual ROM image, preferrably zipped. :)

Are you meaning something like a screen capture? I'm lost as to how to get a ROM image.

Cheers

It's just like flashing, except you use the /pn and /sy switches e.g.
A:\>awdflash savebios.bin /pn /sy
and the usual restrictions apply - boot from a diskette with no autoexec.bat or config.sys

hmm, but G3 manufacturer ID, no Google hits make any sense... I wonder if it is an OEM board ? I know that GMB/DTK had at least one OEM 486 motherboard, commissioned for a project requiring around 13,000 units but dropped in favour of the HP Vectra 4 range, which never appeared on the GMB/DTK lists.
@cmk: ECS is Eclipse Computer Systems, well known for the ECS K7S5A among others, related to PC-Chips and one or two others through Hsin(g)-Tech.
Rainbow's patcher utility works OK on the BIOS you sent me, so if you're willing to test it I'll email the patched version to you.

This board has no G3 in the BIOS ID. I think this is ECS P5ST-A (the BIOS OEM string is ECS-like too).
The GMB-P5ST-A might be or might be not the same board.
