Hi @ all,

my wife and I purchased a new HD for our old PC, but it doesn't work. May be the BIOS can't recognise the HD. Here are the detailled informations about BIOS and HardDrive:

***
The AMIBIOS ID String is :
61-1008-001121-00111111-071595-440LX
AMIBIOS ROM Size: 128Kb
BIOS Build Date: Jul 15 1995
Motherboard Manufacturer Code: 1121 - First International Computer Inc.
***
The Hard Drive is:
Western Digital
40 GB
5400 RPM
***

First, we tried to find some informations about updating the BIOS. But it seems that for those old BIOS (1995...) no more updates can be found. We searched on the AMIBIOS web page, even as on the FICA homepage, but without success... :(
We're desperate... :( Can someone help us ?

It's FIC board. The model number should be printed somewhere on it.
Patched and tested BIOSes are at http://wims.rainbow-software.org

Thank you for the fast reply !
But sorry, we are non-IT users.

- What is a "model number"? Should we open the computer to look on the BIOS Chip?

- By First International Computers, we searched at http://www.fica.com/site/html/services/ ... =240000619 , but can't find on the ftp://ftp.fica.com/BIOS/motherboards/Pentium2/ page those 2 files that we seem to need.

Are we looking the wrong way???

Open your case and look onto your motherboard - there should be VL-601 or something like this written onto it (usually between the PCI Slots)

Yes!!!
It is "VL-601"!!!

Should we look now after a "VL-601" BIOS Update?

On this page ftp://ftp.fica.com/BIOS/motherboards/Pentium2/ there are a lot of VL-601 files. How to find the right-one?

Or, is this a better way : http://www.fic.com.tw/support/motherboa ... odel_id=87 ?

You also have to identify whether it is PCB (printed circuit board) version 1.1 or version 1.3. This is usually marked on the board as well.

PCB/Revision should be printed in small letters in the corener at the last ISA Slot

Easier to identify with their Bios version identifier just below the AMI Logo on boot-up

IV613 or other version with IV identify a PCB 1.3 board
IC4139 or similar numbers with IC identify a PCB 1.1/1.1A board

As FIC lists AMI Bios only for PCB 1.3 it's very much possible you have a PCB 1.3 Board - please recheck with Bios version identifier and printing on your board
