Problem installing win98
Ok I have win98se, my neighbours computer (P166 mmx) and I've been trying to install win 98se all fu**ing day and here's the problem I can install it and during installation Regsvr32 and Rundll32 screw up during installation but nonetheless it installs. When I do get it installed however it'll come up with some error explorer screwed, rundll32 screws up and registry screws up always causing the damned thing to either restart or crash. I flashed the bios, changed a cpu with a known working one, but still no clue as to what is going on could it be something on the motherboard is shot?
Has the HDD been changed recently ? I'm thinking about unsupported UDMA modes - what does the POST configuration summary say ? If it says anything above UDMA mode 2 try disabling UDMA or using the HDD manufacturer's utility to change the maximum mode to UDMA 2 (ATA-33).

bad ram, overheating cpu, bad IDE cable, f***ed up HDD, virus on your bootdisk is what I can think of. And it's perfectly possible to have more than one bad stick of RAM as I found out when sorting the old cr*ppy stuff I had lying around.

Turned out it was bad ram (or for some reason bad simm slots???) there was also PC-100 slots so I changed a jumper and tested it out and worked fine. Good thing too because I was figuring the motherboard was shot or going to be http://www.oldvan.com/shot/htm/mothrbd.htm lol
