Fetch your bios upgrade at Compaq. Cross-flashing not possible. Post series/model of this beast, that way we can advise you where to look if you cannot find your bios.

It's a Compaq:

Presario 7EL7000T-374

One problem is that Compaq has merged with HP, thus making it even harder to navigate for Compaq-"support"..

All info here:

But no mentioning of which board is inside. Could you open the case and reply with the partnumber/spare part number of the board and any additional markings please?

not 100% positive on this as I cant find more resources to match the model given. Based on what I have seen it's

the ELISE/ELISE-SWAP board:

EDIT - changed the pic to link formate to reduce the bandwidth - Toby B.

"Bus:
Socket 370 - 66/100/133 MHz FSB "

this means that even if I manage to flash the bios, I'd still not be able to overclock the cpu since it's allready running 133 MHz, right?

"Notes:
The bios program has been altered to a Compaq specific version. It is not recommended to flash back to the original. If anyone does this successfully please notify us by email. "

hrrm... I'll still try to check for some notes on the motherboard..

*EDIT*

I'm not quite sure where to look.

There's a sticker with some bar code... I'm guessing that's a serial number? Looks like this: 42185P000KR
and next to it is a green sticker;
"Made in China
0110 42 (DS)"

I'm gonna use this picture to describe the location of stuff:
http://s87841630.onlinehome.us/model/elise/6513VX.jpg

The 2 Stickers are located just left of the Right Black Square (which is close to the cpu(fan) (white square)
-That black square reads as follows:
VIA
VT82C694X
0029CE TAIWAN
12E0N3500 (c)"

The other black square reads:

"VIA
VT82C686A
0015CG TAIWAN
13C0N5900 (c)"

Very close to that square is a circular metal plate which looks like the kind of battery those pocket-games from '90 use =)
and close is also a small chip which reads:

"MX" and a couple of very tiny numbers... which I don't wanna have to try to read unless I really have to :)

That's about what marks out the motherboard. I can't see anything else that's special.
Except 1 more bar-code+number sticker. (located behind my gfx card and them other cards..

  • Processor Interface Implementation | Socket 370
Chipset | VIA Apollo Pro 133A/686A
    Total Memory Slots | Three
    Number of PCI Slots: Total/Available | Five/three
    AGP slots: Total/Available | One/zero
    IEEE 1394 Connector | One
Number of USB Connectors | Two
    Serial RS-232C/DB9 Connector | One
    Parallel EPP/ECP /DB25 Connector | One
leads me to believe the ELISE/ELISE-SWAP (AKA Mitac 6513VX) board is the correct one.

As far as over clocking - most likely a powerleap adapter is going to be needed. Someone over at motherboards.org tried to install a 1.2GHz PIII processor and the result was no video, etc.

There... after quite a while of wirebending, I managed to find a somewhat hidden scribe =D

PWA-ELISE SWAP BD
PCB 316701200001-R01
ASSY 411701200001-R[ ]

Where [ ] is a white square. Looks kinda like someone put some Tipex on to hide the rest

Quite common especially if you remember DEC; used for someone to add the assembly revision by hand in ink.
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.

Should I take that as I'm all outta luck trying to find any update for the bios? :?
Also, anything else I can submit?

**edit**

Not sure it's interesting or good in any way for you. But should I dump a copy of my Bios (Don't know how to) and e-mail to you?

What I meant by my comment was that I need to add a few more models to the list of models the board is found in..

As far as getting a backup of your current BIOS/ROMpaq. If you can figure out how to do it (i.e. create a back up of the BIOS) then yeah send me a copy. The normal routine(s) for making a backup will not work as the current version is non-standard...

You can try UniFlash to save the current BIOS. But if the Flash ROM can't be identified correctly, the backup can be bad (always 128KB even when the Flash ROM is bigger).
Patched and tested BIOSes are at http://wims.rainbow-software.org
