this is the BIOS as when starting:
BIOS Date : 12/12/00
BIOS Manufacturer : Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
BIOS ID : 12/12/2000-M807-6A6LME19C-00

when starting the pc with windows xp pro, it detects hard drives and cdroms etc no problem but then just before the windows sign comes up it restarts itself. if try to install a fresh copy of winXP, formats ok but then as copying files need for setup gives this error:

The follow value in the .SIF file used by Setup is corrupted or missing:

Value 0 on the line in section [WinntDirectories] with key "10s."

and then says setup cannot continue and hit F3 to eixt.

is the motherboard stuffed? or do i need to reload the bios or something? please help!!

E1: This is the code for ECS; they are collaborators with Hsing Tech (PC-Chips).
M807: PC-Chips M807
In fact, there should be a line at memory test that says Release 12/12/2000 W
The BIOS is not corrupted or it would complain of a checksum error.
I would carry out a RAM test with Memtest86 (free). I was upgrading a system to XP with similar symptoms and had a RAM problem (I tried changing CD-ROM drives, cables, HDD....).
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.
