i own an Asus a7a266 board which has an Award Medallion 6.0 bios

the problem is that the AMD processors i have (1 palomino, 1 thoroughbred, and 1 barton), are having the speeds recognized correctly, but their voltages are NOT. they are being defaulted to 1.85 volts, way higher than what they are supposed to run at, and so they run way too hot

when i boot into the bios to change it, there is only 1 option to choose from, 1.85

i have tried flashing a bunch of different bios versions from asus including the latest 1013 beta, and every one of them is the same

this leads me to believe i will have to modify my own bios to set the default voltage to something lower, like 1.6 volts

now, correct me if i am wroing, but after lots of reading, i have determined that no version of modbin is compatible with asus bioses

even if i could find one that is compatible, would this setting be something i could change with it? or should i be looking elsewhere such as having to unpack the bios and edit cpucode.exe or stn.bin?

i am pretty good with assembly, but am new to bioses, some direction would be appreciated :-)

Your motherboard has a jumper named VID and it's enabled (default).
Change the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 to disable automatic voltage settings.
Ckeck your manual.
More than 100,000 BIOS strings in my database just now!

notice the difference

this one is greyed out

this one allows me to choose, but only one choice

and no, i cant type whatever i want in, since this next picture is when i change something that has more than one choice, the frequency for example
