"Unknown flash type" is displayed during boot and is also displayed while trying to update bios. I'm using the flash utility that came with the board and I downloaded the bios itself from the company's site. I am sure that the version is correct yet I get this same message.... got any ideas?

Sounds like your BIOS chip has a corrupt software ID stamp. Try using the "-force" mode of Uniflash. It sometimes manages to re-ID the chip.

And check you manual for a possible Flash protection option either per jumper or per Bios setting

Bummer guys. Even the Uniflash didn't get it done. It asks if I'm sure that write protect is disabled while I've disabled it in the cmos and by any jumper that I can find.
I was going to use the -force command, but I can't locate the four digit number to save my life... that is our only hope Obi Wan.
Details are in first post... any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

-force will not help you - it really looks to be write protected...

Hi all. :D

I have the exact problem when trying to flash Soyo SY-6BA+. The message "Unknown Flash Type" is shown during post.

I am trying to flash the motherboard using this bios with this flash utility. The only thing I get is "Unknown Flash Type!"

When I am trying to use Uniflash I get

Flash ROM Chip: UNKNOWN
Organization: N/A (Is write protect disable?)
PCI Chipset: Intel AGPSet 440BX/ZX

There is no jumper for Flash Protection and I can't find something similar in the bios settings.

Any help is welcome...

Can you physically ID the chip?
