board: msi ms-6119 as used with a pIII @ 450mhz in PB Platinum

agent worked its magic:

BIOS type: Award Modular Bios v4.51pg
ID: 08/03/2000-i440bx-w977-2a69km4ac-00
Eval: w6119mj v2.9 120100

it doesnt recognise a new & formatted & proven to work FAT32 HDD for use on a windows 98se machine. autodetect is fine with a 3gb WD drive. jumper settings are correct down to the model name, configured as WD as master with Maxtor as slave on correct IDE ribbon. So i come here believing the BIOS is the problem.

any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated

thanks,

Adam.

i loaded the "most recent version" from MSI and not only does it seem to be the exact same bios (agent confirmed this), but i now get a hardware error upon booting. oh, and it hasnt helped one bit. no hdd recognition. so i'm worse for having tried. an evil autoexec prevented all hope of a backup being created.

Try the patched BIOS instead, courtesy of NickS:

is it even stuck? it gives me the option to F1 reset or F10 exit.

it never beeped at me or anything else to indicate its done.

theres meant to be a jumper called jmode1 and ive seen it on the board physically but there be no pins there! they determine the voltage for flashing apparently... it says no shorting makes for winbond flashing which is what awfl____exe claims to be.

hayulp!

the POST error is just a silly cpu fan glitch, its working and all but you need to disable the detection gubbins.

got the boot order to disk first and it found my hard drives.

im seeing all 120gb thanks to you lot here at wims. i knew i could count on ya's.

thanks bye!
