I've got an old PC that I'm trying to setup for my young neice to use to type reports for school and stuff. It starts up normally with a memory test, and then follows by auto detecting the CD-ROMS, and then nothing happens. No beeps, no change in the screen. It just freezes right then and there.

I tried loading the BIOS defaults and still nothing happens. I tried resetting the BIOS using the jumper; no change. I considered flashing the BIOS but the computer freezes before it gets a chance to load anything, including the floppy disk drive.

I'm currently on the hunt for a manual, to make sure everything is optimally set, but I need to know if this is a fixable problem or am I just wasting my time.

If you need more info about my hardrive below is what I see when it starts:

Award BIOS v.4.51PG W6117MS v1.1 010998

then the memory test then

Award Plug & Play BIOS v.1.0A
followed by listing the CD-ROMS

and the BIOS string on the bottom of the screen is
11/19/97 i440LX-W977-2A69JM49C-00

Look at the battery, may be deplated. If it's so, try to replace it.
