The Syba SATA controller card described http://www.syba.com/Product/Info/Id/39 or http://it.us.syba.com/product/43/02/03/index.html (same card) have a Silicon Image SIL3112 chipset according to the documentation on those pages. The product manual specifies the chipset as SIL3112A (not specified as SIL3112).

What BIOS and drivers should be used with the controller card? Should they be from those described on the pages referred to by the following?:

you can flash the latest which should be 4.2.84
base version and raid will work on the card since there is no difference between those chips. please make sure the vendor/device id of your card is: 1095/3112. if not: make a backup of the card's bios and upload it somewhere so i can take a look.

The controller card's boot advertisment has the following information:

Code: Select all

Sil 3512A SATA BIOS Version 4.3.79
Copyright (C) 1997-2006 Silicon Image, Inc.
The device is identified as:

Code: Select all

[PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3512&SUBSYS_65121095&REV_01\4&15B9AB7D&0&3048]
The product documentation, BIOS advertisment, vendor ID and Device ID do not have the same information regarding what Silicon Image product the card uses.

EDIT: Disregarding the "A" at the end of some product numbers, perhaps Sil3112 and Sil3512 are the same product differing only in BIOS.

EDIT2: The links I posted in the first post to this thread of the controller card description page from the manufacturer reference the device with the same part number, but one one page, lists in two places the Silicon Image chipset used. The chipset model number differ (SIL3112 and SIL3512 on page http://www.syba.com/Product/Info/Id/39 ). My guess is that Syba discontinued the Sil3112 cards and replaced them with Sil3512 cards, kept the same part number, and did not fully update the documentation to correctly describe the current product.

I flashed the controller card with SiL3512 BIOS and the operation was successful.
