It's on a Syntax(P4S651M) mobo..

Bios date: 04/08/03
Bios type: Phoenix-Award Bios v6.00PG
Bios ID : 04/08/2003-Sis-651-6A6IXE19C
Chipset: SiS 651 rev 2
Superio: ITE 8705/SiS 950 rev 2
OS: Microsoft windows xp home edition
CPU: Intel Celeron (R) 2400 mhz

My computer is a Northgate, which went out of business a while back and left us high and dry..
Oh yeah eSupport has it at 50 bucks a pop, but i cant afford that..
So maybe one of the nice people here has it or knows where to get it..
Thanks .

Syntax P4 S651M = ECS/PC-Chips L4S5MG3 according to our previous research, but the BIOS for L4S5MG3 appears to be older than yours.
03/13/2003-SiS-651-6A6IXE19C-00
L4S5MG3 Ver1.0d 03/13/2003

Theis does NOT look right; ECS 651-M PCB version 1.0:
03/18/2004-SiS-650GX-6A6IXE19C-00
651-M Ver1.0b 03/18/2004
but this may be worth considering; ECS 651-M PCB version 2.0:
05/13/2005-SiS-651-6A6IXE19C-00
651-M Ver2.0f 05/13/2005P
Can you check the board for codes & version nos?

Ok the problem is i upgraded my video and sound cards,, going to add a p4 3.06 processor,,and 2 gigs of memory..Also a terabyte of harddrive space..

I was have been told by several people that upgrading my bios would make my system run alot better than it does...

Where do i look for the codes and nos?
I have the book..

Check to see what is printed on the motherboard.
As regards whether a BIOS upgrade will make it run better - have they done this? Maybe they could send you the later BIOS. If not, they're probably just guessing and it may not be worth the risk.

Motherboard model numbers may be printed between the CPU slots or between CPU/Chipset and RAM slots, see this image:

I found a little square box next to the other numbers that say:

Canada ICES-003
Class/Class B

And thats about all there was except all the real tiny things, but i think those are for the various chips on the board....

very close, but there are differences like the battery is sideways not flat, the bios and cmos jumpers are in a different spot...
Maybe its because its a 2.3 board and thats a 2.0 board???

Why do you need this Bios update? You have the latest Bios released by Syntax. It is possible you are able to use the ESC 651M rev 2.x Bios but it's risky and if you don't badly need a new Bios than live with your currently installed Bios (or risk a dead Bios).

My Northgate is the same, I inherited it for free....with all the latest viruses (trojans/adware) AVG trial got it clean. The cleanup was done with AVG and CCleaner. Still has something hanging on...an internet worm...no possible removal...unless I format and load a good os.

Intel Celeron 2.4
533 MHz FSB
Sis S651M chipset.

I put 2 512k kingston ddr 333 and waiting on my p4 (SL6S5) from China. 3.06GHz 512k 533.

Does your P4 work? Motherboard is OK with it?

My bios version is unbeknownced since the pc is apart, waiting for the P4 to come, and I can't remember what it was, I looked the times I had it open, but I didn't write it down. What would the BIOS update achieve?

I know that in the current one, some adjustments can be made. I just don't want to flash my bios unless the P4 doesn't fly good.

I'm forum jumping for drivers and bios flash files, etc. Enhancement from the defaults. I have decided not to upgrade the video. My monitor is a 19" AOC crt, and well, on this 478 socket mb with 533 fsb, I figure it would be wasteful to go on a graphics card, since the board has no PCI-X slot or less the useful PCI-X16. Mine has only PCI slots. You have any thoughts on how to get this machine any better than a internet surfing machine, I'd like to know...

@drdiscus, try Combofix and TweakNow RegCleaner and Spybot S&D to get rid of rest of the worms.

Not clear from your post if this Celeron is a 533MHz model.
I am not very familiar with SiS and Intel combos, but some Celerons 100/400MHz can be tricked into running 133/533 bus.

You might read up on that to see if is possible/valid in this case.
A second hand PCI VGA card with a 128bit memory bus might also kick better than on-board VGA.
otoh, SiS chip-sets usually not very compatible or efficient with discrete cards.
