Can anyone help me upgrade my bios to support 80 GB IBM drive
Got bios data from BIOS Agent.

BIOS Manufacturer : Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID : 03/30/1999-i440BX-8671-2A69KG0EC
BIOS Date : 03/30/1999
BIOS Eval: Intel 440BX AGPSet BIOS for 6BXE V.3.1 CI

GigaByte GA-6BXE board. Get the latest BIOS "02/06/2001-i440BX-8671-GA6BXE00C-00" at http://ftp.gigabyte.com.tw/support/temp ... xe_f3a.zip They changed the BIOS ID so the flash utility might complain.

When i try that FLASH with that file i first get the message:

File name to save.
I enter a file name and it says "now backup system bios to file"

That completes and then it says "Checksum 7082H"
and gives an Error message saying:

"The program file's part number does not match with your system"
"Are you sure to program (y/n)?"

What does this mean? Is this what your talking about the flash utility might complain?

So is it safe to select y?

Yes, that exactly is caused by changed BIOS ID. Enter Yes.

I've successfully flashed my BIOS, thanks.

The only problem now is when i install my 80Gb drive i cant get it to work, it keeps saying BADMDR does anyone know what this means?

Install the drive as the only drive (primary master, no other HDDs connected to prevent accidental data loss) and boot from Win98SE/ME floppy/CD. Run FDISK /MBR, then FDISK. If there are some partitions, delete them and reboot. If you want to install OS on that drive, just run the setup from the CD - it will create partition and format it automatically.

I set up the drive as the only primary drive, then type fdisk /mbr

After that i type fdisk to load the program

I select Y to large disk support then when i select to create, delete, view partitions the program freezes and i have to reboot the computer.

Any ideas

What version of FDISK are you using ?

I didn't think FDISK used UDMA, but it may be worth disabling it in the BIOS (CMOS setup). If this fixes your problem, go to the IBM site and download the IBM disk feature utility. Run this to create a bootable diskette and set the disk transfer rate to something your board supports, e.g UDMA33. You probably want to do this anyway.
