Mysteriously powers off

I have a E-machine e-monster 500 and when using it the pc sometimes mysteriously turns it self off. Do you think this is a Bios problem or a software or hardware problem?
Thanks,
Gary

Check your CMOS setup to see if it has any voltage monitoring features. Since it's an E-Machine, it probably won't. Install a program like Motherboard Monitor and see if that works.

Failing that, find a diagram of the ATX PSU power output for each pin. Disconnect all PSU connections from peripherals and motherboard and test them with a volt-meter.

You should be able to turn on an unplugged ATX PSU by shorting green to ground. (But don't blame me if something disastrous happens.)

Oh, and if you do replace it again, don't use the shitty E-Machines PSU. Get an aftermarket one from http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/ or some such.
Flash your BIOS at your own risk.
