I have an EMachines 5230 PC from PC World, which has 1Gb of RAM in it (2x512Mb) working fine.

Since it has only 2 slots, I bought 2 x 1Gb modules so I could upgrade to the listed 2Gb maximum for the motherboard.

The 1Gb 2700 modules are both working fine, but only in the righthand slot and, if a 1Gb is in the righthand slot, nothing will work in the lefthand slot, so basically I am at square one with a max of 1Gb RAM.

I have updated the BIOS and all the main board drivers, but this has made no difference. Someone mentioned resetting the CMOS, but I don't know how to do that, nor do I have a manual for the PC or motherboard (nor can I find one on the web).

Anyone any ideas?

I'm not much of a techie, so giving warning on this:)
