I have this older Acer Aspire Model #6133SB computer. When I got it, it had only 2 memory strips in, for a total of 16 MB.
Then I replaced them wit 2, 32 MB strips. The BIOS says: 64532MB OK. But it will not start my Windows 98.

I only get a black screen. Now maybe I have to tell the BIOS that I added more memory? But I'm unable to get into it. There is no message telling me what keys to press. to get into the BIOS.

I tried: Delete, F1, F2, Esc, Ctrl, Esc+Alt+ctrl. I even tried disconnecting the hard drive. But none worked.

I was able to insert two 16 MB strips and two 8 MB strips and then start Windows. But now I still have only 32 MB of memory. Also, on the Acer Website I was unable to find any information on this model. And that is what brought me here.

Can somebody maybe help me here?

Do you have a manual or anything around? Could you give some more information about the machine, since 6133SB was not a part number I could find at the Acer site. Thanks.

Thanks KaciWachi: Here is some more info:
Computer, ACER ASPIRE
Model: 5133SB
Extension: 2337
Part # 91.AA772.GT5
Serial # 2600607429
DS: AA774.003
Mfg. 951102

Numbers on the motherboard:
V12LC 94143-2X
48.56701.012

Unfortunately I do not have the manual. And I was unable to find it on the ACER Website. Also, they never replied to my email, when I inquired about the memory and about getting into the BIOS.

Also, I'm a relatively new computer user. Maybe somebody like you, with much more experience, might have a much easier time figuring all this out.

Yes, this looks like my board KachiWachi. To get this information, would have taken me many days. But at some point I probably would have given up. I'm very thankfull, that you provided this information.

Although the information will be helpfull to me, it still doesn't tell me how to get into the BIOS.

Also, it seems that it only takes 70NS memory chips. But I'll go online and see if Crucial does confirm this.

Your title mentions EDO RAM, but the page I mentioned only says Fast Page Mode RAM is acceptable.

Is your new memory EDO or Fast Page?

When it does start up (with the original RAM configuration), does it say it is an AWARD, AMI, or ???? BIOS?

This also came up in my Google Search -> http://assist.acer.com/public/articles/1107.htm

Going here and entering "V12LC" provides more information (search Title and File, note that some of the returned files do not exist) -> http://assist.acer.com/public/articles/

Thanks again KachiWachi for the tremendous effort you must have put in, trying to help me out. From all the info. I have gotten so far, I gather that this board only takes FPM 70 ns memory.

Yes, I tried EDO memory. But that was probably why the BIOS didn't go any further with it. By the way, the BIOS is: Acer P54C.

The only thing left for me now is to find some used higher density FPM memory strips. So I could have at least 64 MB. New memory is out of the question. Just too expensive.

Good luck in your search!

Keep an eye on the local dumpsters. I've found all sorts of useful items there.
