frankly i have no identification for my mobo, the bios number however is as follows

09/15/97-i430vx-02271997c-00

and i have 256 mb pc133 sdram which is only showing as 64 mb
when i tested all other sticks of pc100 or pc133 they showed as half.

and when i tested edo ram

32 mb became 16mb (4 sticks)

chipset, jumper, or bios problem?

No way. How many chips on your 32MB EDO sticks ?

I remember using 4x 32MB in my old i430Vx mainboard and it was used as 128MB. AFAIR they had 8 or 4 chips per stick.

it wasnt 32 mb sticks, but 4 8 mb sticks equating to 32.

one had four, two on either side, and the others had about 8 per side.

frankly im at my wits end, after frying my old socket seven about a year ago and moving to a socket a, which recently got fried.

but seriously, is there any compatible ram that it doesnt slice in half?

i430VX will only recognize up to 32 MB DIMMS (16 Mbit Technology).

Best bet is to install four 32 MB EDO SIMMS for 128 MB.

EDO should be pretty cheap on Ebay and other online auctions, maybe your local dealer has some of them in his garbage (or still to sell)
