Is your memory not fully recognized? (Intel VX chipset Memory recognition)

About a year ago I upgraded my friend's PCChips M571, adding 2 sticks of 64MB PC66 RAM. After a clean install of 98SE, I had two problems:
  • the Windows splash screen had a bunch of garbage on it after POST and before shutdown.

there was a vertical line to the right of the mouse pointer.
I had no idea what was causing this until recently when I threw some RAM into a completely different computer and had the same exact problem!

Now I'm convinced it's a RAM/BIOS issue.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this and if there are BIOS settings that deal with it.

Cheers

Most probably, the memory is just bad. Try a test like GoldMemory http://www.goldmemory.cz.

Yep. Had the same problem on the same board. (NO, not mine...)

Binned the bad stick, problem disappeared.
Flash your BIOS at your own risk.
