"Active 5000 Series" - don't know if that says anything. The files are non-downloaded tough! :-(

Yepp. I am positive. It is labeled 5600XT on a white label and only 5600 on a black label. I looked at ftp.fica.com (I think) and there was a 55xx with similar BIOS-version naming but without knowing for sure that I should download a FIC-version or not I don't want to try! :-) Also, in Sweden this l...

Well, actually it is a laptop from a "local" company which is Best Technologies. I think they have used Clevo/Kapok motherboards in other of there laptops. I don't think that there is any more information in the POST, under the AMI BIOS logo it says: AMIBIOS MOBILE '98 PCI/PNP, BOOTBLOCK, ACPI BUILD...

BIOS ID-strings list (and a few questions more)...

For example, does "BIOS Agent" read what motherboard you have or does it compare the BIOS ID-string it identifies with an internal list of ID-strings ? It would be great if someone had the answers to this couse a friend of mine is helpi...

Yes, that would be easy - if I could reboot the computer (server)! :-) If I could identify the BIOS ID-string then I could take down the server for maintence (newer CPU, bigger HDD, more RAM) - but I can't take it down just for look at the BIOS ID-string! :-(

I'll keep looking... :-)

Motherboard indentification tools for linux ?

Don't sure if this is the right forum to post in, but as the topic says, is there any motherboard identification tools for Linux ? I have tried googling but I didn't find anything (maybe my searchstring was bad).

"Big HDD"-limitations...

I've tried that "BIOS Patcher" for some old Pentium motherboards that I have and it worked like a charm. But now I wonder. What about adding 48-bit LBA on old motherboards, is it technical possible or is that chipset/hardware limitations ? Would be pretty cool to have a 250GB disk in your old Pentiu...
