This is taken from the thinkpad forum: Whew, finding the datasheet for the C9714 clock generator was easy compared to finding the actual part! The datasheet is available from here: http://www.alldatasheet.com/view.jsp?Searchword=c9714 I spent over an hour looking for the part on the motherboard. At ...

430TX can only support up to 256MB so that doesn't make sense either. What happens if you remove the 64MB removeable and put in a 256? I don't have any 64mb rams installed i use two slots with 256mb each, the third is empty, no matter what ram i install there is the total amount exceeds 512 it just...

Propably the memory banks overlap somehow. Maybe you can figure it out if you have one smaller memory an try it in each possible slot with the other slots being occupied byt 256's, and report the amount of memory detected by the bios. I try that this what i found; 128+128+256=works recognizes 512 :...

I can't recognise if the picture is from 770Z. But the clock generator IMI SG577 is the one used in 600E http://www.standardics.nxp.com/products/pck/pdf/pck2000.pdf The mod appears genuine, since it it pulls up pin 27 SEL0 to enable 108MHz FSB bus (as far as I can remember). If i take a picture of ...

Does 770Z have built in 32M RAM on the motherboard? Maybe it can cut away and additional SODIMM slot wired instead? It may require a lot of work though... No it has a removable 64mb ram and you can install three 256mb rams but only two are recognized. Here is a picture where you can see the memory ...
