Sharedoc, Yes, with Win 98SE it boots at 850 every time, goodness only knows why, but I'm happy! In DOS, "dsleep.exe" will force it from the initial 700 state to 850. But, unfortunately, Windows 2000 seems to be a problem! I just set the same system up with Win 2K recently and it stays at 700MHz aft...

If it's the supervisor password that's set, then removing the CMOS battery won't reset it. I'm not familiar with the 600X, but I'm surprised by the fact that you say you can't get into the BIOS setup even though you know the password? The 600X user guide, ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss...

I_am_banana, If you can transfer the existing surface mount pull-down 10K-ohm resistor, (shown in the image linked to above as 'remove this resistor'), to the pads indicated for the pull-up resistor, that's the neatest solution. But the resistor is very tiny, and resoldering it is a bit of a challen...

Sharedoc, In regard to the possibilities you mentioned: 1) I'm sure it's not related to CPU temperature - I'm doing all this with the system partly disassembled and can check the heatsink by touch, and it's not abnormally hot at all. 2) Yes, I'm pretty sure it is, as you suggest, "... some Win98SE d...

I'm not familiar with the T21 but I've looked at the Hardware Maintenance Manual for it, and the illustration of the CPU in the parts exploded-view diagram doesn't look like an MMC-2 module, which is what you need for the 390X. Also, " Tawbook.pdf " lists the T21's CPU as " Intel® Mobile Pentium® II...

Rather arbitrarily I have chosen to respond here - http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/post42605.html#42605 . That thread and this one are both about 390E issues rather than 390X, but the one where I have responded has relatively few posts so far, which I thought made it a better candidate for adding 390...

Although there are some 390 (E & X) posts in this thread, I decided to respond here - http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/post42605.html#42605 - where it might be more easily found by someone searching for '390' issues.
The short answer to your question - 'no problem'!

You should have no problems going to a P-III 850MHz MMC-2 CPU from your present 450MHz, but the CPU will run at its lower speed (700MHz) - I did this mod to a 390X model 2626-M0U that had a P-III 500MHz CPU. Sometime I plan to try Sharedoc's CPU hardware mod to see if I can get it to run at the 850M...

Sharedoc, Sorry for the delayed reply - I've been away a few days. Yes, I mean "Windows 98SE Safe Mode". I ran WCPUID and on the Cache Information screen it says: Level 2 Cache - 256K byte cache size - 8-way set associative - 32 byte line size I captured the different screens as images, and the one ...

With the 390X BIOS installed in the 390E system the following text appears immediately after the screen displaying the IBM ThinkPad logo, and the message "Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup utility", disappears: Re-work needed, using old RTC chip. ISB055WW CPU = Pentium (R) II processor 450MHz 640K System ...

pkiff wrote: Wait a second, from what I can tell reading the thread, Trillium is unable to boot into Windows 98SE with the 390X BIOS installed on a 390E. That was true with a P-III 500MHz CPU installed - I could boot in Safe Mode, but a regular boot would hang. With the P-III installed and a complet...

I didn't see this thread until after I had posted my 390E upgrade experiments here: http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topic7639-30.html . I have just achieved success at getting the 390E to run at 100MHz FSB, with the original P-II/300MHz CPU being recognized by the BIOS and WCPUID as a P-II running at...

YES! Success! I guess I've answered my own question. Everything's working now - FSB at 100MHz, basic P-II/300 CPU running at 450MHz, USB, floppy and serial port all functioning OK! Thank you Sharedoc! It was your comment, that pin 14 served 2 functions, that made me think I should not have lifted it...

Thanks again for your input Sharedoc - I will try what you suggest. But first please let me ask you this - should pin 14 be lifted from its pad on the board, or left connected? Several posts in your 600E thread referred to a pull-down resistor probably being present and responsible for setting a pin...

Hello Sharedoc, Thanks for your reply - I did wonder if the USB and floppy simply wouldn't work with the mod to 100MHz FSB, but the fact that 'rottenmutt' had reported (3 posts up) that his floppy and USB were working with the FSB mod (once he reassembled everthing in the case) made me think there m...
