Does your board have integrated LAN? It appears that only the DBL has onboard LAN. The DA does not.
A 4x or 8x AGP card will work in the same slot, regardless. They have the same pin design and voltage.

The difference is likely some on-board device, the both use the VIA KT400 chipset. Dell XPS R450 BIOS doesn't recognize Pentium 3
I have a Dell XPS R450 that originally came with a 450MHz P2 (latest BIOS, version A13). I have since upgraded it to a P3 800MHz, but the BIOS shows it as a Pentium Pro 500MHz. 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' shows all the correct info, but I'm not sure if it's actually running at 800MHz or if it's using L2 cac...
